6th Grade Sewing

At Heritage Middle School every student learns to apply the skills of sewing in their life.  6th graders participate in an exploratory Family Consumer Science class, while 7th and 8th graders can elect to take Family Consumer Science.  The Art of Sewing website has been created as a tool for HMS FCS students to access when they need additional help with sewing.  The site provides basic information about hand sewing, machine sewing, and quilting techniques that are used throughout the three FCS courses taught at HMS. 

 

  6th grade FCS has a 4 week sewing unit.  During these weeks students learn the basics of hand sewing including the names and uses of sewing tools and stitching techniques.  In 6th grade FCS students make a pin cushion and a football. Below are links that will assist 6th grade students:

8th Grade (Young Living) Sewing Unit
7th grade FCS has a 7 week sewing unit.  During these weeks students learn to use the sewing machine and create an aromatherapy bag, pillowcase, practice quilt square, and a quilted pillow that showcases a picture printed on fabric.  Below are links that will assist 7th grade students:   In Young Living students participate in a 9 week clothing and apparel design unit.  Students use creativity to create a variety of clothing as they learn about design, pattern use, color, and construction.  Below are links that will assist 8th grade students:
